Creaky Bones and the 'Old Guy' Sandwich
Two-time SCR ROY champ Steve Hedgespeth, 28, found himself wedged
between his elders, and taking second, at today's grey and windy Creaky Bones Dash 5K in Melbourne. Out in
front and leading the entire way was Doug Butler who, at 43, seems undaunted by the challenges the increase in years seems
to pile on the rest of us. Butler, who has eight ROY titles to his credit, hit the line in 16:43, followed by Hedgespeth
in 17:09. Following in 17:39, for third, was 45-year-old Don Piercy, co-owner of Running Zone. On the ladies' side, Caitlin Reese, 24, continued her winning streak, taking the
victory in 19:00. Last year's ROY champ, Jennifer Meacham, 27, was second in 19:31 followed by 36-year-old Bonnie
Schroeder, who grabbed third in 19:59. Race results

He's
back! After completing his stint with the military, 23-year-old Ron Abel has returned to Brevard and his previous speedy

competition to take the win in 20:49. Complete results on Running Zone's result page at http://www.runningzone.com/results.html?id=0242 Check out complete race photo gallery shot by Barry Jones

A Different Battle for Downey
USAT All American, Rob Downey, seemed unbeatable going into the
2006 season. After all, the 56-year-old Melbourne Village professional photographer had won 11 races in 2005, including
eight consecutive wins. Rob shares with us how an early season
injury this past April put him on a roller coaster throughout the remainder of the season. His story provides
us all with a few lessons and the encouragement to know that we can come back from our own struggles. For full story,

this cooler training weather today!

Where Is The Phone Booth?
Super heroes don't always wear capes. Sometimes they
pose as the guy in the next office or the girl down the street.
Kathy Ojeda is one such person. You may know her as a
good runner, expert windsurfer or gal with a great sense of fun and humor. Others may know her as a wife, Dud's mom,
friend or wine-tasting buddy.
But she is also a woman who knows how good her life
is and gives much of her time back to help others improve theirs.
I'm not talking about the glam stuff where you get to party
and see your name in Space Coast Living or the foofy sections in the paper.
Kathy is willing to get her hands dirty and let her heart feel
the sadness, anger, frustration and pain of others. In that way she also experiences great depths of joy as she watches
those she helps slowly inch their way upward.
She is the one willing to teach the illiterate young
mother how to read, allowing her and her child new possibilities.
She is the one listening to, counseling and holding
the hand of the woman who has had enough of the domestic violence and has finally taken the courageous step to walk away.
She is also the one who will go to court with a victim and
step into an advocacy role.
She is the super woman you can count on to help where no one
else will.
